Plans for the Future

Greetings all. If you are reading this then you are probably interested in my upcoming book Reconstructing Stone Age Religion from Moon Books. Assuming that is because you, too, want to reconnect with the spirituality of the ancient megaliths and those who built them, you are in the right place! The book is only the beginning.

But let me start with the the book. I wrote the book because I had a digital notebook of notes from 80+ books and scholarly articles on Iron Age, Bronze Age, Neolithic, Mesolithic, and Paleolithic ritual behavior from various disciplines (history, archaeology, anthropology, mythology, linguistics, astronomy, mycology, gastronomy, and more). I had to translate some stuff from French, Irish, and Middle and Old Irish. I watched videos to learn how to knap flint. I got sliced the hell up making my ritual knife using only flint, antler, and stone. I moved stones around to make a nemeton. I observed the holy days and performed the rituals. It was all in this quest to understand as best as a modern human can what the people were doing in the Stone Age and why they needed to crawl into dangerous caves or build these elaborate stone monuments. I found answers and they meant (and mean) so much to me.

I started to realize that not everyone has the time, money, and knowledge/skill required to gather this information. Some people would want to know what I now know but would not have the ability to find out. So I wrote a book. It’s coming out later this year or maybe early next year. It contains the distilled knowledge of all my work so far so that people can follow the ancestors’ path in a fraction of the time and money that it took me. And it has sources so you don’t have to take my word for it!

One of the problems I identify in the book is that Stone Age people enacted their rituals not in nemetons (an Iron Age druidic sacred space) but in caves or megaliths. Most especially, in megalithic tombs. Certainly, there are a great many menhirs and cromlechs like Stonehenge and they of course had rituals performed there. I focus more on the dolmens, wedge tombs, and passage tombs for pretty solid reasons explained at length in the book. That being said, I have nothing against other types of megaliths and there are two wonderful modern megalithic sites in my home state of Pennsylvania:

Four Quarters Interfaith Sanctuary https://www.4qf.org/

Columcille Megalith Park https://www.columcille.org/

I have not been to any of the services at Four Quarters but I plan to. I go to Columcille several times a year and I highly recommend it! They do have a dolmen but it is uncovered and has never been a burial site. None of the many caves near where I live allow private bookings and even if they did, I suspect they may protest burying human cremains or lighting fires inside their cave. So what can be done?

Obviously, the only answer is to start a nonprofit and raise money to buy land and build our own megalithic chamber tomb. Or buy land that has a cave? I looked into it and they are about the same cost, but you can build the burial mound wherever you want whereas you need to find someone selling land with a cave; ergo, probably going to build the mound.

But that’s the plan. I am seeking to gather a community of like-minded people with whom I can at least converse about our reconstruction activities; and, if they also see the need for a sídhe mound, partner with me to build one. It’s a long term goal but I believe it will happen. If you are reading this and already interested in being part of an online community dedicated to Stone Age religion please feel free to message me on Threads @dminyellow. I will not assume people interested in practicing this tradition are automatically interested in building the mound so if you also want to be a part of that you will need to let me know.

Many Beltane blessings to you all!
